One Blink Changes Everything
Prompt - Every time you blink, the room rearranges itself.
I know, I said I won’t be posting on a schedule anymore, but I did say you may see some random post from me. I also felt the need to explain first, rather than present the story first, as I normally do.
I’m recovering from surgery (doing well, fuck Endometriosis, this is my 5th surgery for it…but I digress) and was determined that during this time off of work, I was going to spend some time working on my screenplays. But, due to being on pain meds and just being exhausted, that has not happened.
This morning my husband asked me “why don’t you write today?” and I mentioned that I’ve been so tired, and he said “just write and when you are tired, stop”. And then it hit me. Why have I been pushing 5 minutes prompts so much? BECAUSE THEY WORK. I haven’t been doing them, my brain has been out of the practice of writing, I was getting stuck in other patterns.
This story isn’t amazing, but it FELT good to write, no matter the outcome. I can feel some cobwebs getting cleared out, some creativity flowing again. I’m thinking I should do a few more of these and I’ll be ready to jump back into my screenplays.
After surgery, rest is important, but so is slowly brining physical activities. The brain is the same way, sometimes it needs a rest (or is forced to rest) and before you can just dive back into all the work, you need a little warmup or easing back in.
So enjoy my groggy brain scribblings as I get back into writing shape.

5 Minute Prompt - Every time you blink, the room rearranges itself.
I’ve been sitting on this same spot on my couch for the past hour, but I have not been in the same location that whole time.
I don’t know why it started, but I know it has been going on for 1 hour, 3 minutes and 52 seconds. Every time I blink, the entire room rearranges itself. The first time this happened it made me so dizzy I fell down.
Of course I was frightened, so I started blinking like crazy. Everything became a blur. I couldn’t walk out of fear that I would blink and run into something.
The only thing I know for sure, so far, is that whatever objects I’m physically touching remain in the same location.
I’ve been trying not to blink as much as I can stand, but it’s nearly impossible. My eyes keep drying out, and even if I try to use eye drops, it forces me to blink.
The thing that really scares me is, is this just happening in the room I’m in, in all of the rooms? Are all of the houses themselves being rearranged outside my door, my house staying put because that is where I am? Does that even make sense? Maybe not, but neither does a room that keeps moving.
I don’t know who to call, who would believe me. I’m scared to sleep, as it’s like one, long blink, and I don’t know what will happen.
The rules:
1. Set a time for 5 minutes.
2. Get writing. Don’t overthink it, let the story take you where it wants to go.
3. When the time stops, you stop (ok, you can cheat a little, finish your current sentence, then stop.)
4. In my game, you are allowed to fix spelling errors - but leave the rest of it alone!
5. Share your creation in the comments below.

Well I think it's splendid prompt and I plan to use it - with full attribution to the inspiree, of course! If that's okay.
Ok, this is really cool. Question though - is what you wrote the prompt or the story b/c it sparked some ideas!
